Cool Lightroom Trick for Local Sharpening!!

When Sharpening in Lightroom, global sharpening can over sharpen parts of the image that you'd like to keep soft. So, I normally don't sharpen in LR and do local sharpening in Photoshop. Global sharpening in Lightroom hard bakes the sharpening into the file when opening in Photoshop. But this cool trick gives you local sharpening in LR - i.e. you can sharpen foreground and leave the sky soft, or choose how deep you want your sharpening to go!

·       Go to Detail / Sharpening / Masking

·       Click "Option" on Mac or "Alt" on Windows and move the Masking slider

·       The Screen goes black and highlights the parts that will be sharpened! Black = no sharpening, White = sharpening!

·       Works like a charm!

·       This is gonna get used!

Detail/Sharpening/Option or Alt/Masking = localized sharpening!
